Checkmate (A Poem)

It's so easy for me to become king
But I'm just too lazy to kill my father
And If I plateau out, It's simple to become a martyr
This is the complacency speaking for itself because
that's the only way It can describe it's owner...
Giving up is not an option, but continuing is an opinion
an opinion we won't take, me and my complacency
sometimes it assumes the lead and takes me three steps behind
where I would safely be...
I could have used a silver bullet to shoot my way past the Bermuda triangle to find the fountain of youth...
But I chose not to; the journey seemed too expensive
So I bought a spaceship instead
Just to collect dust in my closet next to my lab coat and police badge
These are things I still have time to be
But why? There are millions more qualified than I
and besides
Starbucks gives medical and dental
Duane Reade is a Union now!
After 20 years in retail I can have free weekends...
by then I should love who I became,
Right?
